The Blog

I started a blog once a few years ago, and wrote up a few posts about some low level linux things that vexed me and others I knew for a long time. Eventually I realized I was the only one consuming what I’d written, and that the blog had turned into nothing more than an externally visible notes repository for myself. I took that realization and switched to keeping that type of information in Apple Notes, and never looked back.

Until now, that is. I’ve missed having a personal outlet for my own projects and interests. So, the blog comes back! My goals are to keep this focused on three subjects:

  1. Robots. I work on robots. I’ve built hundreds of them professionally, and continue to do so now. I like learning about what others are doing in Robotics, so this topic fits both my interests and expertise.
  2. Machines. I used to joke that I’d never met a machine I couldn’t fix. The core of it is that I’m incapable of seeing some machine and accepting it at face value. I can’t help but try and figure out how it works, it’s nearly compulsive! From boring things like the linkage that opens the doors on the train I commute on, all the way to fascinating and complex machines like fiber optic strain sensors.
  3. Sociopolitical commentary about the changes that the above topics bring to our world. We’re benefiting from the incredible changes in both the robotics field, and the press avenues by which we observe this field. Given the rapid changes of the industry, and the potential impact it has on the world, I won’t be able to help myself but comment on it.

Was this a post worth reading? Nah. But I needed at least one page to play around with the deployment pipeline behind this page.

I’m writing this blog in markdown.

I’m hosting this on DigitalOcean.
